ROCKIN' THE WORLD
Radio Rock UK broadcasts a mixture of British classic rock
and progressive music from the 1970s with some 60s and
a little 80s. The music we play is not what you might find
on the average classic rock radio station. Radio Rock UK plays
the tracks that other stations no longer play: the forgotten
tracks and the long twenty minute or even thirty minute tracks.
This station looks back to an era when rock musicians were beginning
to take their art seriously; though some would say too seriously.
But it was a time when people began to really listen to popular music, and
listen for long periods of time: rock songs had begun to resemble symphonies.
This was the dawning of the era of British progressive rock bands: Pink Floyd,
Yes, Genesis, Caravan and The Soft Machine, and Emerson Lake and Palmer, to
name just a few. The music of these bands was largely produced without the sole
consideration of being commercial, band members preferred instead to make
music of their own choice. Many of these progressive rock bands have endured,
withstanding the test of time, and remain equally as popular today as they were
over thirty-five years ago. Radio Rock UK also remembers a time when British radio stations
– Seagull, Caroline, and Geronimo, responded to the influence of the new bands and
began playing long sets of uninterrupted music; it seems as if radio had also abandoned
its purpose of existing solely for profit. The day of the brash, constantly talking
DJ was (or at least temporarily was) over. The DJ became a soft spoken guy who was
judged by the music he played rather than the sound of his voice: thus the music
itself had become the important ingredient of good radio.
Radio Rock UK's purpose is not to profit from its nostalgic memories of the past, but merely
to keep alive the music of that era, which is often overlooked today. So you
may ask why the website contains advertising. Well, the cost of running the station
is constantly rising and the links found on this page generate a modest sum that helps
to keep the station alive. Every time you click on one of the
