Emerson Lake & Palmer was founded in 1970 by Keith Emerson and Greg Lake.
Keith Emerson played keyboards for The Nice, while Greg Lake was King Crimson's bassist and vocalist.
When The Nice and King Crimson played together on the same bill in 1969, the idea for the super
group E.L.P. was born.
A third band member was needed to play drums: this job went to Carl Palmer who had formerly
played with Atomic Rooster and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.
Emerson Lake & Palmer broke up in December 1979, following the commercial failure of the
Love Beach album. Carl Palmer joined Asia and in 1985 Keith Emerson and Greg Lake teamed up
with Cozy Powell, who had played with The Jeff Beck Group, Rainbow and Whitesnake, to form
Emerson Lake & Powell.
Emerson Lake & Palmer reformed in 1991 to record the Black Moon album.
