The King Crimson story begins in Bournemouth in 1967 with the formation of the trio - Giles, Giles & Fripp, consisting Of Michael Giles (drums), Peter
Giles (bass), and Robert Fripp (guitars). In 1969, Robert Fripp and Michael Giles formed King Crimson with Greg Lake replacing Peter Giles. The
name King Crimson is accredited to lyracist Peter Sinfield, who envisaged the name as being a synonym of Beelzebub, the prince of demons.
1969 Line-up
Robert Fripp - Guitar
Greg Lake - Vocals & bass
Peter Sinfield - Lyrics and synthesizer
Ian McDonald - Keyboards
Michael Giles - Drums
King Crimson's line-up has changed dramatically since the band's inception, though with Robert Fripp always remaining at the helm. After the complete
break-up of the band in the late 70s, Fripp decided to reform the band in 1981, first under the name Discipline (the name of the first album by the
new line-up), but later reviving the name King Crimson. The various incarnations of Crimson are too numerous to list, but rather it is better to create
one list of all of the band members.
