Led Zeppelin were formed in 1968 from the ashes of The Yardbirds. After the departure
of guitarist Jeff Beck the band had disintigrated. Jimmy Page the only surviving member
of The Yardbirds quickly reformed the band, which toured in 1968 under the name "The New
Yardbirds". The band later changed their name to Led Zeppelin, a phrase coined by The Who's
Keith Moon and John Entwistle.
