Pink Floyd have gone through many changes since the bands inception in 1965.
Pink Floyd began life as a blues band. In the late 1960's the band dropped
their blues style in favour of psychedelia. After a brief period out of the
public eye, Pink Floyd re-emerged with their own unique style, for which
they are known today. The name Pink Floyd was derived from the names of
two veteran blues singers - Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
Original Line-up
Syd Barrett - Lead guitar and vocals.
Roger Waters - Bass guitar.
Richard Wright - Keyboards.
Nick Mason - Drums.
In February 1968 David Gilmour joined the band as a second guitarist. By this time Syd
Barrett's behavior was becoming increasingly erratic, and his inability to play during
live performances necessitated the addition of a second guitarist. In April 1968, Syd
was asked to leave the band.
Line-up from 1968
David Gilmour - Lead guitar and vocals.
Roger Waters - Bass guitar and vocals.

After the release of 'The Final Cut' in 1983, Roger Waters left the band. A legal battle
between Waters and the other band members over the name 'Pink Floyd' effectively silenced
the band until the release of 'A Momentary Lapse Of Reason' in 1987.
